GETTING READY TO SCAN

 

1. Place the item you wish to scan on the scanner FIRST.

2. On the "shipping station" computer, minimize all open applications.

3.. Double click on the "HP Director" icon located on the desktop.

4. Click on "scan picture" or "scan document" depending on what you are scanning.

 

SCANNING A PICTURE

1. After clicking on "scan picture" in HP Director, wait for the application to load.

2. If you forgot to place the item you wish to scan on the scanner, click the "new scan" button at the bottom of the screen. Otherwise, proceed to the next step.

3. If the "bounding box" (the dashed line rectangle with black squares) is already set to the outer edges of the picture you wish to scan, click "accept." Otherwise, set the scanning area by dragging the "anchor points" (the black squares) to create a new rectangle around the area you wish to scan. Then click on "accept".

4. If you wish to scan another image, click "yes" on the pop-up window that asks if you have anything more to scan. Otherwise, clcik "no."

5. The scanned image will appear in a new applicaiton (HP Photo & Imaging Gallery). Double click on the image.

6. Use the tools at the right (rotate, resize, etc.) to manipulate the photo. When done, click "save as" and save the image in a location that you will remember (e.g. the desktop).

7. Click "exit"

 

SCANNING A DOCUMENT

1. After clicking "scan document" in HP Director, wait for the application to load.

2. Select the appropriate "radio button" to answer the questions "Scan for editable text" (answer is usually "no") and "Original contains graphics."

3. Select where you would like the scanned image to go. For example, use the drop-down menu to select "E-mail" if you would like to scan to email.

4. Click "Scan."

5. If the "bounding box" (the dashed line rectangle with black squares) is already set to the outer edges of the picture you wish to scan, click "accept." Otherwise, set the scanning area by dragging the "anchor points" (the black squares) to create a new rectangle around the area you wish to scan. Then click on "accept".

6. If you wish to scan another image, click "yes" on the pop-up window that asks if you have anything more to scan. Otherwise, clcik "no."

7. When done scanning, the image(s) will go to the location you specified in step #3. For example, if you chose "save to file" a pop-up window will be visible asking where to save the image(s). If you chose "scan to email" the email application will open, with the image(s) already attached to a new email.

8. If you saved the image as a file, you can transfer the image to a disk by dragging the file out of the folder and onto the disk. This process will save the original file and make a copy on the disk you specify.
